A recent statement has announced government plans to end right to cash compensation for whiplash claims. Where whiplash claims alone cost the insurance industry £2bn a year, an average of £90 a policy, the government has come up with a plan to bring car insurance bills down by as much as £50. With fears growing over the country’s developing ‘compensation culture’, the Justice Secretary has announced that cuts are to be made to the fees charged for medical reports in cases involving whiplash injuries. The new regulations will be launched in October, meaning that medical professionals can charge a maximum of £180 for initial whiplash reports. The Government has unveiled new proposals on improving the safety and reducing risks to young drivers at a summit for the motor insurance industry, hosted by the Department for Transport.
