A cyclist who was left wheelchair-bound for four months after being hit by a car has been awarded £105,000 in compensation. The 48-year-old, who remains unnamed, had been cycling on a roundabout near his home in Corfe Mullen when a car sped past him, knocking him off his bike. British cycling legend 84-year-old Brian Robinson has been awarded compensation after he suffered serious injuries in a cycling accident near his home in West Yorkshire. Mr Robinson had been cycling with some friends on the 16 July 2014 when a car knocked him off his bike. He suffered a serious break to his left collarbone, six broken ribs and a punctured lung. 50-year-old cyclist Melanie Burrows said that she feels greatly let down by police after they were unable to take her case further following a serious cycling accident. A cyclist has been awarded £70,000 in compensation after a pothole threw him off his bike in 2009. Alan Curtis from Bushey in Hertfordshire suffered a “severe head injury” in the crash on The Drive in Rickmansworth. The 57-year-old sued Hertfordshire County Council for failing to fill-in the pothole, which he described as being a “real source of danger” to road users. Transport for London (TfL) has published the findings of the first independent review into construction logistics and cyclist safety. This was commissioned by TfL following the worrying number of collisions involving construction vehicles and cyclists in recent years. Between 2008 and 2011, 56% of the cycling fatalities in London have involved large commercial vehicles, including a disproportionate number of construction vehicles. Government cuts road safety spending

The government has cut spending on road safety campaigns from £19 million in 2008/09 to just £4 million in 2011/12 – a cut of nearly 80%. The figure was revealed after a freedom of information enquiry by road safety charity the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM). The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) is calling for changes to British Summer Time (BST), to give us more daylight hours in the evening. According to the IAM, bringing the British time zone forward by an hour in both winter and summer would mean more light in the evenings, when crashes are more likely.
